Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. –H.L. Mencken
Now this is a real debate on intellectual property.
Stephan Kinsella discusses intellectual property with Alexander “Ace” Baker.
Baker is a composer in the film industry, a self-styled anarcho-capitalist, and, unlike Kinsella’s previous opponent, is actually a real person.
The conversation is civil, respectful, and engaging, although Kinsella does have a habit of interrupting his opponent. This seem to be partially due to Kinsella’s style and partially due to the nature of Skype.
Baker is attempting to build a “libertarian theory of intangible property”. His website is homesteadip.blogspot.com. I don’t think he’ll have much success, but at least he is intellectually honest.
For example, he agrees with Kinsella that if intellectual “objects” can be property, then the property rights on them would extend forever just like tangible objects. He also acknowledges up front his bias for IP as a composer of music who makes a living from it.
Enjoy.
