Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. –H.L. Mencken
This is great. Krugman is mad about what the so-called fiscal cliff deal could be: “only a 37 percent rate on top incomes, and a rise in the Medicare eligibility age.”
That’s right, “only” 37%. The horror!!
But here’s the best part. Krugman says this could disillusion the Democrats:
So this looks crazy to me; it looks like a deal that makes no sense either substantively or in terms of the actual bargaining strength of the parties. And if it does happen, the disillusionment on the Democratic side would be huge. All that effort to reelect Obama, and the first thing he does is give away two years of Medicare? How’s that going to play in future attempts to get out the vote?
What’s that, Paul? You say Obama could turn out to be just another politician?
Let’s hope he’s right, that Obama “caves” and even more people see their dear leader for who he really is.
Wouldn’t it be great if even more people stayed home rather than voting next time?
